Thoughts on My Home Office

Though I still have a lampshade project for the family room waiting, my Decorating ADD has kicked in and my thoughts are already turning to my home office. Don't worry, the lampshade will be completed and shared soon, but today with sunshine streaming through my beautiful windows, I thought I'd share a before picture.

Yikes! Are you afraid? :)

My goals for this room: keep the beautiful purple on the walls (there's a story here that I'll share at a later date), contain the clutter, update the fabrics, procure a smaller chair that won't overwhelm the space.

The room has a few challenges. The previous owners installed ALOT of picture moulding on the walls. I'll have to decide it I want to keep it above the chair railing. While it's awkward to work around, taking it out will mean repairing and repainting the walls. But then again, if I'm going to REALLY redo the room, I should go ahead and address it. Thoughts?

The room has fabulous light and a fair amount of space, but it has to accomodate me, my husband, and my kids for homework and projects. It's a multipurpose and much used space!

Here are some of the fabric swatches I'm currently in love with:

I really think going with a gray, white, and purple palette, with touches of black will really streamline and update the space. Don't you just love looking for fabrics? It's a guilty pleasure of mine.

And then there's this beauty that I found online at World Market:

Would it be too much purple in the room? Is there such a thing if you really LOVE purple?

More to come!

  1. Hi Heidi. Well I know you thought I'd never do it but I finally (insert embarrassing laugh) posted about the gorgeous Hawthorne Hurricane Vase. I'm really sorry I didn't post sooner but I really wanted to get some beautiful tulips to display in it. Well, that wasn't happening so I borrowed your picture instead. Hope you don't mind. You can see the post here: http://cottonpickincute.blogspot.com/2011/02/tulips-make-me-swoon-and-eww-what.html

I am a fabric junkie too. It's just hard to find fabric at a good price anymore. I loved the old days when we had Cloth World, Fabric King and more. I could spend hours looking at fabric and usually most of my paycheck. I love, love, love the fabric choices you've made. I think the purple walls are really rich and warm. And I adore that purple chair too. In my humble opinion I think the purple on purple might be too much and not display the gorgeous shape of the chair enough. But what do I know I'm not a decorator. I'd love to see the purple chair in a gray room. Maybe a different fabric on the chair with a purple pillow in it. No matter what you choose I know it will be beautiful.

    Hugs...Tracy :)
