Beautiful Hamptons Tablescape

These gorgeous images came to me via One Kings Lane's Facebook page, but I had to share!  A beautiful tablescape sets the tone for your party and makes your guests feel special.  These tables were for a luncheon hosted by One Kings Lane at the 2010 Hamptons Designer Showhouse.  Created by Geoffrey Ross (of Dransfield and Ross) and Hillary Thomas (Hillary Thomas Designs) these gems are the perfect illustration of attention to detail and inspired accessories.  Don't you just want to pull up a chair? 

Love the layered place settings with the fans! "Classic Hamptons Meets Malibu Chic" is the theme.

A centerpiece with coral accents? Who'd have thought!! Genius by Jennifer Houser.

The blue stemware is an inspired contrast.

The big picture...8 seats at square tables are perfect for more intimate and inclusive conversations.

I stumbled upon this sweet little blog called Smitten Blog Designs while in search of new look for What's On Heidi's Mind, and lo and behold, these creative gals are highlightng some beautiful work spaces themselves!  This serene space is by West Elm (thanks for the image).  Head on over to their site and view their work space ideas AND their incredible inventory of blog design templates.  You're bound to be inspired!

Hard Working Decor

Organization challenges me daily and no where am I more challenged than in my home office.  After all, it's the hub of my home, where I write, and where I run my SLAH business.  But after many stops and starts, I've realized that sterile organizational systems are not for me.   What works for my creative and over-active mind is organization with style.  Fortunately, my SLAH business has afforded me many beautiful containers and shelves to help me along (you can check out our organization helpers by clicking here).

But I would be remiss if I didn't point you to a fabulous little website called Sorting With Style.  Created by entrepreneur and personality Sayeh Pezeshki, aka "The Office Sylist," this website is an online treasure trove of stylish office supplies at affordable prices.  Choose from patterned file folders, chic paper clips and paper weights, label systems, note cards and note pads, sticky notes, journals, agendas, and the list goes on and on.   Sign up for her daily e-blast of tips and tricks and fun new items while you're there.

E-Decor...Genius!

I have stumbled upon an absolutely genius concept in affordable decorating or redecorating, I Heart Design by Avenue.  In my opinion, it's brilliant!  Begun by three young designers last year, this company brings professional decorating on a budget to a whole new level through e-commerce.  The website is simple to navigate, walking you through step by step what YOU need to do, and then explaining in detail what THEY will do with a very quick turnaround time.  All for $3.50 per square foot of whatever space you're decorating.  Your "decor in a box" will be delivered to you with all the tools necessary to recreate your room.  They will even provide you with a shopping list of new furnishings and accessories, based on information you've provided about your decorating likes and dislikes and any existing pieces you want them to work around.  You can also order through them and take advantage of their industry discounts when available.

If you're at a loss as to where to start with that certain space, but still want to do the actual decorating yourself, this is perfect for you.  They provide the creative direction but let you do arranging and installation on your own.  An ideal compromise for the tapped-out wanna-be decorator at a fraction of the cost of a traditional interior decorator.

Tip of the Week: Finish What You Start!

I knew this day would come... the build-up has been happening behind the scenes for months.  Southern Living at HOME is re-launching this July with a new name and new looks.  I have it on good authority that many of your favorite products will still be available along with some exciting new ones!  But, I also hear that we are losing several of our "collections."  While I'm saddened by this tidbit of news, I'm hoping that means better "collections" are coming our way.

So consider this week's "Tip of the Week" to be your heads-up.  If you're collecting any of our product lines, especially flatware, pottery, dinnerware, glassware, you might want to finish what you've started.  I am ready to place your order anytime and will be discounting shipping and handling for all April orders in light of this news.  Make sure you visit my online catalog (www.southernlivingathome.com/heidimilton) to view our current collections and prices.

Welcome to Show Some Décor! I consider this an extension of my Southern Living at HOME business, but also just a fun interactive forum where I can share ideas, thoughts, and plans for making your home (and mine) the heart of the matter. After all, HOME is where the heart is, right?


Think of all the things that occur within the walls of our home—parenting, cooking, mentoring, relaxing, even working, just to name a few. I could go on and on, and I’m sure you could, too. What role does décor play in any of these monumental tasks? I think you’d be surprised! This blog is intended to illuminate the role that décor and other aspects of “home-making” (to use a somewhat archaic term) play in helping our households function proficiently as a source of nurture.

Some posts will be light-hearted and fun quickies (which is the beauty of a blog) and others may be weightier. Some will contain a recipe, a decorating or organizing idea, a party theme, a shortcut to make your life easier. Others will highlight a product—either one of my own Southern Living at HOME products or some other gem I’ve stumbled across. Brace yourself for a wide variety of topics!
