Rev Up Your Outdoors {a Fancy Giveaway!}

Anyone else have the urge to play in the dirt?  As we've gotten warmer here in Georgia, I can hear my garden and containers calling me!  This weekend I will be purchasing my first ever tomato plants to have in containers on my back deck... my husband is a great skeptic, but I hope to have some delish red tomatoes to enjoy this summer.

Since I have a graduate this year (Yikes!), I'll be putting a little extra care into my beds and containers.  We'll be hosting some out-of-town company and, of course, an outdoor soiree in her honor. More on that later this month-- once we're ahead of all the interior repairs, of course!  But I've already started my list of annuals and a few transplants, so the wheels are turning.

I was thrilled when Amanda over at Fancy Little Things gave me a heads up about their latest Home and Garden Giveaway:  a Bloomerang Lilac!

Isn't this gorgeous??  Here's some information on this particular plant from Better Homes and Gardens:

"New Bloomerang dwarf lilac covers itself with clusters of purple-pink, sweetly scented blooms in May, and then continues flowering off and on throughout the summer! Reaching just 4 to 5 feet tall, it fits perfectly in foundation plantings or small gardens. Plant several together and create a fragrant hedge."Reblooming lilac blooms from spring and again from mid-summer to frost and does best in full sun.

I did a little digging (no pun intended!) and found a few more features of this variety of lilac online.

  • Attacts butterflies (love this!)
    • Best Seller
  • • Cut Flower
  • • Deer Resistant
  • • Fall Interest
  • • Fragrant Flowers
  • • Landscape Plant
  • • Needs Good Drainage

These are just the kind of things I like to know about new plants and I like to keep it simple ~ hence the bullet points!

I've got the perfect corner of my yard for this beauty... how about you?  Head over to Fancy Little Things between now and May 2nd to enter this fabulous giveaway!

Projects, Projects...and Fancy Little Things Giveaway

I keep hoping I'm going to make some headway on the projects that are on my list-- or even in mid-stream!  But then things get busy at home or work and they go on the back burner again.  I'm very much a project person.  I like the feeling of being involved in a project-- whether it's a community service, church group, work, or home project.  And even better is the feeling that comes with successful completion!

With the intent of spurring myself on and holding myself accountable for finishing these projects, here's what's on the list to do:

Love this lamp, but it's getting a more modern shade covered in a fun fabric. :)

This sweet little urn is being made into a small lamp for my family room bookcase.

My family room bookshelves are getting a nice color on the back-- still debating on which color.  I have 3 to choose from... I'll be polling you, my faithful readers, before I launch this project!

I've had this frame for YEARS... I know, right?  I've got spray paint waiting for this one, but can't decide if I should make it part of a gallery wall or insert burlap covered cork board for a fun message center or jewery organizer.  Again, you'll be polled. :)

Remember my home office desk?  It's actually an old banquet table with great storage underneath.  I've got the new fabrics ready to roll on this one-- just have to find time to clear it off and get busy!

I'm so excited to jump on this one-- my stepson's dresser just waiting for a fresh coat of paint!

How about you?  Any projects lingering?  Maybe this can help you out...

Flea Market Finds... and Other Fun Stuff :)

Last Friday I stepped into the Classy Flea here in Marietta for the first time in a couple of years.  I have never walked out of there empty-handed in the past and Friday was no exception.  Lots of pieces with potential and personality to be found... unfortunately, I walked in without my camera or iPhone (can you believe it?), so I'll just show you what I ended up bringing home.  Hey... it's better than nothing!  I was on a mission for a small piece or two to complete my family room bookcase do-over and I hit the jackpot at the Classy Flea!

The first piece I found is this blue ceramic liquor decanter!  I loved the size of it, the shape, and the bright pop of color.  $4.99, ladies.

Then I found this precious silver plate planter.  Perfect size for my English Ivy plant.  You'll see her again in my post about decorating with your silver pieces later this week. :)  Originally $9.99, marked down to $7.99.
I was feeling like a real bargain-hunter and having fun doing it!

In other exciting news, my pillows arrived from One Kings Lane over the weekend!  They are perfect on my chocolate brown sofa... more details about the other pillows coming soon.  But these Liora Manne pillows are my new loves. :)

Aren't they yummy??

And finally, I wanted to share a really fabulous giveaway over at Tatertots and Jello.  Jen has hooked up with Barn Owl Primitives (check out their Etsy shop!) and two lucky readers will win $50 gift certificates to their Etsy shop!  Fun, fun, fun... visit Jen's blog for details to enter (and while you're there, poke around for some really clever ideas!).  I'm totally in for this one. :)
Check out the entire sofa re-do tomorrow!
